David’s Jerusalem was much different than the walled Old City that exists today. David’s Jerusalem was located on the spur south of the current Temple Mount. Approximately 1000 B.C., David conquered Jerusalem and made it his capital.
Today the City of David is a politically sensitive area, as Jewish archaeologists are at work in a predominantly Palestinian neighborhood.
2 Samuel 5:1-10 describes David’s conquering of Jerusalem and solidification of his kingship in Israel.
