DT | Self Made

Tuesday, June 13 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

It is a badge of honor in American culture to be considered a self-made man (and woman). With good reason. But what are the dark sides of being self-made? What does it do to our hearts, minds, and souls when the pressure of finding meaning, finding identity, finding security all rides on . . . me? The reality is, being self-made makes us the god of our own worlds. We are at the center, and the pressure is on us to find happiness, to look inside for meaning and identity, and to work hard to provide our own security. This then shapes our understanding of sex, work, gender, politics, love, and more. A message that starts off (often subversively) with a promise for freedom, turns us into slaves. Anxious, tired, and disconnected. Jesus offers something different. He invited us to give up our lives, embrace him as the main character, and find a different kind of freedom under his design for our lives. And as the church, we have to be equipped to spread his message.

So join us this summer as we ask: “what does it mean for us to live as creatures in a self-created world?” Set apart and distinctive because the pressure of being God is not for us to carry. Where truth is more consistent than my feelings. We can love others more than ourselves. We can decrease, so he can increase. And we can find joy in his success.

Sessions include:
1. A Now World
2. Main Character Syndrome
3. Anxiety and Loneliness
4. Truth and My Feelings
5. Love and Affirmation
6. Sex and Happiness

This six-week study will start on Tuesday, June 13 from 6:30-8:30pm. We will have a time of eating and connecting on the front end; bring your own dinner!
