Outreach | Lunch & Learn for Foster & Adoptive Parents

Tuesday, March 3 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm
Pelham Campus, 2801 Pelham Rd.
Greenville, SC 29615 United States

Ever wonder what exposure to toxic stress looks like in our kids long-term? Bring your lunch and join us in viewing "Resilience: The Biology of Stress and the Science of Hope". This documentary chronicles the promising beginnings of a national movement to prevent childhood trauma, treat Toxic Stress, and greatly improve the health of future generations. This powerful film looks at the relationship between Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and lifelong health. As we better serve children and families in our communities, it’s important to understand the challenges that many parents, caregivers, and young children face. While the reality of ACEs is deeply discouraging, Resilience will also encourage us toward hopeful solutions. After the video, we will complete a questionnaire to find your ACE score and have time for discussion and questions. Register below by February 27.

There are both hard and beautiful parts of parenting within transracial families! Many foster and adoptive parents are ready to receive a child into their home with open arms. But what happens next? Join Brenda and Toney Parks, as they share stories, answer questions, and pass along practical advice for transracial families. Dr. Toney Parks has served for more than 25 years as Pastor of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church and as a community leader in Greenville County. Brenda has nearly 40 years in Child Welfare Services, having served most of those years working with families adopting from Foster Care at SCDSS Region I Adoption. She currently serves as the Director of Foster Care for Miracle Hill Ministries.
